Play: Embracing Joyful Purposelessness
Play means engaging in activities simply because we enjoy them, not because we hope to achieve something. Modern society, particularly through social media, has diminished authentic play.
Competition, both external and internal, erodes joy from activities. Many people avoid dancing, painting, and drawing because they fear judgment. Yet these activities offer substantial psychological benefits regardless of skill level.
The challenge: engage in one purposeless, silly, joyful activity daily. This practice will increase life satisfaction while eliminating concerns about judgment and achievement pressure.
